Safety and romance scams

Effective 26 October 2026 · Version 1.0 · Operated by GoSharp Global Services Ltd

Most people here are exactly who they say they are. These are the things worth knowing anyway. The same advice is in the app's Safety centre, together with emergency numbers for your country.

If you are in danger

Contact your local emergency services first. Christian Singles is not an emergency service and nobody here can reach you quickly. The app's Safety centre shows emergency numbers for the country on your profile or the one you choose.

Spotting a romance scam

  • Nobody genuine needs your money. Be careful with anyone who plays on your emotions and then asks for money, gift cards, airtime or crypto, however plausible the reason: a sick relative, a stuck parcel, a visa, a business emergency. It is always OK to say no.
  • "Get rich quick" is a red flag. Investment tips, crypto "opportunities" and guaranteed returns from someone you have just matched with are the most common scam in dating apps.
  • Keep the conversation here at first. Someone pushing hard to move to another app straight away, especially before a video call, may be avoiding our safety tools.
  • Too good, too fast. Declarations of love within days, a profile that seems perfect, a story that keeps changing, or someone who always has an excuse not to video-call.
  • Check the photos. Do a reverse image search. Ask for a short live video call. The "Verified" badge shows that someone matched a selfie to their photos, but it is not a background check.
  • Never share bank details, card numbers, passwords, one-time codes, copies of ID, or intimate photos that could be used against you.

Before you meet

  • Talk for a while first and take a video call.
  • Meet in a busy public place for the first few dates, and arrange your own transport.
  • Tell a friend or family member who you are meeting, where and when. The app's Share my date feature can send a trusted person the details and a check-in link.
  • Keep your drink with you, stay sober enough to decide, and trust your instincts: if something feels off, that is reason enough to stop.
  • Keep your home address and workplace to yourself until you know someone well.

Report or block, any time

Use Report in the conversation menu, or on a profile or group post. If someone is abusive, report them before you block them: blocking first is fine, but reporting gives our team the conversation they need to act. Blocking removes you from each other completely. Reports are confidential and reports involving a possible minor, threats or scams are reviewed first (see Moderation and Appeals).

If you have been scammed or abused

  • Stop sending money. Tell your bank or card provider straight away; they can sometimes stop or reverse a payment.
  • Keep screenshots of messages, profiles and payment receipts.
  • Report the person in the app, and report the crime to your local police or national fraud and cybercrime service.
  • Talk to someone you trust. Being deceived is not your fault.
